DM Johnston fired in cabinet reshuffle

After his party has been in charge for a year and 90 days, Prime Minister Abbott has staged a cabinet reshuffle.

As part of that process, Defence Minister Johnston has been fired. Kevin Andrews (lawyer / professional politician) will replace him.

Besides the usual platitudes, most Australians don't care about Defence. Australia is after all, no matter which major party is in charge, a socialist nanny-state. That isn't an insult. Just a statement of fact.

The Australian reports the PM staff labling this reshuffle as, "jobs and families".

Australia has a population of around 24 million and a workforce of about 11.6 million.

Upset the socialist feeding trough and a current government can find itself in trouble. The reshuffle is Abbott's attempt to change perception, not so much, performance.

Nothing mentioned about a stronger national defence.

Here is what The Australian editorial staff commentary states about the Johnston firing.

"Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews, who failed to win the fairness debate over welfare reform, has been transferred to the defence portfolio, a ministry that is normally more low key."

Good grief. That is what many of the intelligencia think? Defence is normally low key?

So Andrews couldn't cut it in the war over welfare but is good enough for Defence because Johnston stated that he wouldn't trust government-owned Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) to build a canoe.

Both Johnston and Andrews don't have what it takes to be a Defence Minister. Example: Johnston was a rubber-stamp for the hugely troubled F-35 program.

Australia has had 9 Defence ministers in this century. For the most part, all, low-performing.

What will Andrews, who is as clueless on Defence as a new-born chimp, be doing the first days on the job? Same as the last chooks. He will be force-fed misleading briefings from the Entrenched Defence Bureaucracy (cabal). Not always, but many times, putting those puppet strings on to a new Defence Minister works well enough.

The evidence is Australia's national security structure being taken over by foreign interests and those kinds of people that believe in self-before-service. That is, where large portions of your defence dollars go.

For no real improvement in warfighting power.

Australia, as a whole, doesn't care about Defence. Parliament will open again in February.
