Collins sub replacement appears to be a rigged game

When you read this new article, you will see a shocking sickness in government. That is, the PM's chief-of-staff pre-picking the chief-of-staff for almost all Minister's portfolios.

And if the prospective Minister doesn't like it, they don't get to be Minister of that portfolio; or any portfolio.

Interesting too is the DFAT pros shoved into Defence to undermine the leadership of that portfolio. They  are not all that bright on Defence. Industry and some in Defence will be able to tell them anything via PowerPoint (example: F-35) and it will go into the next Defence White Paper as gospel.

So back to the topic, it appears that not only was the election promise to build the Collins submarine replacement at home broken, but that the whole process has the appearance of being a rigged game.

There is just a lot of risk in preselecting a weapon system like this. For example: the F-35 was selected by Australia in 2002 by Howard, Hill and Houston, with no credible studies to back it up.

This isn't going to go well. I hope they didn't want these subs to actually work as advertised while flying the RAN flag.

This evil heritage of ignoring risks on multi-billion dollar white elephants (the label fits if there was no proper risk assessment) has to stop.

Exactly how our elected officials intend to fix this is an open question.
