"High-priority" F-35 upgrade needed for obsolete sensor

The F-35 program has been going so long, with no real combat aircraft fielded, that it EOTS will need an upgrade...a "high-priority" upgrade...in Block 4 as it is now behind current off the shelf E/O pods/appliances.

Way to go.

A comprehensive overhaul of one of the most important sensor systems on the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is a high priority for the Block 4 upgrade program, say company officials. It is needed because the Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) is already behind the state of the art in EO imaging and processing, and will fall further behind by 2020 as a new generation of pod-mounted systems enters service.

EOTS is the SNIPER-like technology in the nose of the aircraft that...by-the-way, has less of a field of view than a similar pod-mounted device on current aircraft like the F-16.
