Defence may be wanting to waste more money on defective M-1 tanks

If this article is true, Defence wants more M-1 tanks.

Odd considering its many defects, including the power-pack is no longer made, like...the rest of the tank.

While Australia may have bought 59, there are only 28 combat-coded tanks in the Regiment as of 2012.

Any update on this info since 2012 would be appreciated.

Of interest, there are few land-masses around our regional area of interest where M-1 tanks can be used. The logistics tail and consumption of these tanks goes well beyond that of any other proper tank, like, for instance, a later Leopard.

As an aside, any defence capability requirement put forward that has  Middle East operations as the justification needs to be shot-down. The Middle East is not our area of interest given such a small military. Also, our federal budget spending is in a shambles. $17B per year toward interest on the federal debt; for a nation of about 24 million people.
